Thought for the Week – The Power of Words

So often, we forget the power that our words hold. They have the ability to uplift and tear down, to cause love and hate, and can even bring about a change in someone’s life. And with this power, comes great responsibility. (Yes, I used a Spiderman quote on purpose) We have a responsibility to use our words in ways that build up.

And yes, it is hard. Sometimes you jokingly say something that is taken seriously by someone. Sometimes you get mad and say something hurtful and later regret it. And sometimes you say something the wrong way and never get your message across. But part of following God is considering everything you do, and say, before you do or say it. Ask yourself: Will this build up? Would these be words that I would speak if Jesus were with me? Will me my words cause harm to a person or relationship?

Make an effort this week to be careful of what you say, and pray that God will guide you in all things.
